Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Parley mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service") operated by Morris Su ("we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA) to use the Service. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf.

2. Accounts

You may sign in using Apple or Google. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us immediately at support@tryparley.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

You may not create more than one account per person, impersonate another person, or use the Service if we have previously suspended your account.

3. Parley Plus Subscription

iOS (App Store)

Parley Plus is available as an auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple. Your subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Billing occurs through your Apple ID. You can manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Web (Stripe)

Subscriptions purchased on the web are billed through Stripe. You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will retain access until then.

Free Trial

Where a free trial is offered, it will convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand.

Refunds

iOS purchases are subject to Apple's refund policy. Web purchases may be refunded within 7 days of the initial charge by contacting support@tryparley.com. Renewal charges are non-refundable.

Price Changes

We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Continued use after the price change takes effect constitutes acceptance.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract any part of the Service
  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically download content from the Service
  • Use automated means to generate or submit content
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security-related features
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any other user's account or data
  • Transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code

5. AI-Generated Content

Parley Plus uses AI to generate reading passages and vocabulary explanations. This content is generated automatically and may occasionally contain errors. It is provided for educational purposes only and should not be treated as authoritative linguistic or professional advice. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness of AI-generated content.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content (excluding content you provide and third-party data such as JMdict) are the property of Morris Su and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our prior written consent.

Dictionary data is sourced from JMdict/EDICT, used in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike Licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MORRIS SU BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Morris Su from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct we deem harmful to the Service or its users. You may delete your account at any time from app settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in San Francisco County, California.

12. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
